IT'S BEGINNING TO LOOK A LOT LIKE CHRISTMAS
Karena loves the smell of a real Christmas tree so every year, we purchase a real wreath and Christmas tree the weekend after Thanksgiving. And this year, even though we were a few days late, we managed to get it all.
Karena decided on two changes this year. We went to Lowe's instead of Home Depot for the tree and managed to find an almost 8 foot tree in the 6-7' pile and used a $10 off coupon. This might make us go back to Lowe's again next year.
Also, Karena thought she could appreciate the tree more if it were in our bedroom. So, now it smells like a forest in our bedroom . . . and Karena loves it.
And that makes it all worthwhile.

what kind of tree do you recommend? There's so many different kinds...we're thinking of getting a real one this year too.The types that I'm familiar with are the Douglas and Noble Fir. Also we've never brought a real tree home before, so how do you suggest we tie it up?
Lowe's prices seem pretty similar to Home Depot's. For the 6'-7' Noble Fir, both places charge the same. If you buy at either place, they put a net around it and generally have twine you can use to tie it on your car (trunk facing forward).
Many people say the Noble smells better, but I can't tell. It does have thicker, shorter needles that don't fall off as easily and seem to not dry out as much. The branches are also more delineated (top-bottom) and often have more space between them.
The Douglas usually costs less, has thinner, spikier needles that fall more as they dry out. Some people think this type looks “fuller.”
It comes down to a matter of preference as I know people who love both.
