OUR JOBS
As physical therapists, we've been called everything in the book. Gary once jokingly called us "professional rubbers." Many confuse us with massage therapists. (We, in fact, do not massage). We've been called "trainers," which we aren't either. We've even been called "chiropractors."
But yesterday, my uncle apologized for his erroneous thoughts about what PTs actually were. He was hit by a car months ago and had to endure many months of PT in order to speed up his rehabilitation. Afterward, we had the upmost respect for PT. But before going through this, he thought PTs were nothing but "pornographic people who were taking advantage of an unfortunate situation." Can you believe that? That was a first! We all burst out laughing.
But as funny as that statement was, I was also scared to think what my uncle must have been thinking when my dad told him I was going to PT school!
