CINCO DE MAYO
I forgot to mention my thoughts on this year's Cinco De Mayo.
I found it hilarious that Karena never gets any days off -- not Christmas Eve, not New Year's Eve, not the day after Thanksgiving, none of the "minor" holidays. But for Cinco De Mayo, they got off work early to go to Olvera Street for dinner.
I was fortunate enough to join them and meet up with them just in time. Being at Olvera Street brought back so many memories of all the times I went there as a kid for field trips while at La Merced. You know, growing up in Montebello, that was the "in" place to go for field trips. We used to buy those confetti-filled eggs and bash them over the heads of the girls we liked. (Boy, were we dumb.)Anyway, I must not have grown out of that because I had this desire to buy one and bash it over Karena's head just for old time's sake, but decided against it.
We ate at La Golondrina Cafe. The food was average, the margeritas were good, and the atmosphere was okay. I did have a good time hanging out with some of Karena's co-workers. Still, the egg thing would have made the Cindo De Mayo celebration perfect.
