CHILDHOOD MISUNDERSTANDING
When I was a kid, we never really bought sherbet because we always would rather have ice cream. So, when I started hearing that there was something new called sorbet, I thought the two words were the same word.
In fact, I thought maybe "sorbet" was spelled "sherbet" and I was just mispronouncing it all these years.
It wasn't until years later that I learned the truth: they are in fact two words. But who really knows the difference between the two anyway?
