PASTOR RICH'S WEDDING
For me, the day started out bright and early at Costco. Along with Lou, Halbert, and Raymond from Delta, we successfully bought and moved 20 trays full of those Costco roller sandwiches to church with only a few casualties (i.e. a few trays rolled over during a hard turn left). When we got to church, it was great to see so many of us helping out - bringing fruit trays from Ralphs, moving chairs, setting up decorations, making punch, etc. It was definitely a team effort by all of us college and young adults. But what amazed me most is that one minute, everyone is in their T-shirts and shorts sweating away from all the work being done, and the next, they are all dressed up and looking sharp. I wasn't able to pull off that feat quite as well as everyone else because I was so sweaty.
The ceremony tuned out to be an emotional one when Pastor Rich, who never ever sings in public, made one exception and sang a beautiful promise song to his new bride Connie. Sure, it was in perfect pitch, but it was so beautiful that most of the girls began to cry. And most of the guys pumped their first in the air and cheered at the thought that their pastor could rock the house!
And amazingly, the reception went without a hitch, thanks to all the help from everyone. But that's the way I think it should be - the community joining together to get the job done and to enjoy it in the process.
(More on the banquet in tomorrow's entry ... unless I talk about the Lakers game, in which case the banquet will be pushed back to Tuesday).
